Lake Byllesby boat launch to close Monday, Nov. 17

Posted November 13, 2025

Goodhue County will be closing its main boat launch at Lake Byllesby just off Highway 19 outside Cannon Falls on Monday, November 17th.  This closure is in conjunction with Dakota County, who has also closed their boat launch at Lake Byllesby.  The closures are proactive safety measures as the barriers in front of the dam are removed in preparation for the winter season.  Both launches will be re-opened when ice forms on the lake.

The launches will also be closed in the spring between ice out and the period when the lake has been filled to its summer water level (usually early- to mid-May) and the protective floats can be re-installed.

Goodhue County’s rustic western boat launch off 23rd Ave Way will remain open, but launching conditions during fall and winter water level draw-down are challenging – the ramp at this location is shorter, the water is much more shallow, and the launch surface past the concrete ramp is muddy and unstable for boat trailers.  Use of this launch is discouraged due to these reasons.  No fall or winter restroom accommodations are available at the western boat launch.
