Goodhue County is a naturally beautiful place, home to dozens of parks, welcoming communities, and a thriving business environment. Our county seat is located in Red Wing, MN, one of 10 incorporated cities within our borders. Working closely with partner government agencies, including the Prairie Island Indian Community, we strive to promote the safety, health, and well-being of all our residents.

With convenient access to both the Twin Cities and Rochester, Goodhue County is bordered by Dakota County to the north, Wabasha County to the east, Dodge and Olmsted counties to the south, and Rice County to the west. The Mississippi River and Lake Pepin form our northeastern boundary and separate us from the State of Wisconsin.

With 48,035 residents, we are the 20th largest of Minnesota’s 87 counties.

Goodhue County sits within the ancestral homeland of the Dakota Oyate (people). It is a place of breathtaking views and rugged landscapes carved through the bluffs and hills of the Mississippi River Valley. Our residents are connected by a rich blend of agricultural lands, scenic natural features, small communities, and sovereign territories—each carrying deep history and enduring traditions.
