Chief Deputy Huneke receives Service Above Self award

Posted April 23, 2026

Each year in April, The Red Wing Rotary Club recognizes public servants who best exemplify the Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self" by demostrating a commitment to helping others. Among the three honorees this year is Chief Deputy Jon Huneke of the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office.

"His dedication to his profession, his community, and the people he serves is exceptional. He leads by example, gives generously of his time, and makes a lasting impact on everyone around him," shared Sheriff Marty Kelly, who nominated Chief Huneke for the honor. "It is with great respect and appreciation that we recognize him with this well-deserved honor."

Huneke began his law enforcement career in 1999 at the Goodhue County Jail, rising to the rank of Chief Deputy. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, he is also deeply involved in his church, the Goodhue Lions Club, and 4‑H, consistently volunteering his time to support youth, community events, and local service efforts.

Red Wing Rotary's Service above Self luncheon was held on April 21. The annual event honors representatives from the City of Red Wing, Red Wing Public Schools, and Goodhue County. The winners will receive a $200 donation to the cause of their choice and a Service Above Self plaque with their name for a year.
