Our Goals

To partner with our communities, child care providers, schools, workplaces, non-profits, faith communities, health care providers and other organizations
To implement evidence-based strategies that are proven to increase physical activity and nutritious eating, and decrease tobacco use.
To focus on long-term sustainable changes

Why strive to improve the health of Goodhue County?

Healthcare costs continue to escalate and people continue to suffer and die needlessly from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.
Obesity and being overweight threaten the health of our children, youth, adults, and seniors, placing many of us at much greater risk for a wide variety of chronic diseases and health conditions.
Tobacco use is still the single most preventable cause of disease, disability, and death. There is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.

Locally Driven

Goodhue County SHIP is directed by a local Community Leadership Team that brings expertise and connections to our table. Volunteers from each of our communities, our schools, our non-profits, and our businesses work to establish and grow community support for policy, systems, and environmental change work in obesity prevention and tobacco use and control. Our leadership team works together to focus priorities, engage community members, and help guide the selection of evidence-based strategies. Better Health Together

If you would like to implement a new policy, system or environmental change in your community, children at your daycare/school, or workplace, please fill out the interest form to determine whether your project idea is eligible. Community Awards are available.
